A Road Well Travelled: August 2007

Past the Mountains

We have reached the northern edge of the mountains. It is strange to think that below our feet there are Elves, Dwarves, Men and Wizard busy digging tunnels in search of a fire crystal.

Ahead of us in the distance we can see the three Islands sitting in the Bay of Arboria. There is heavy smoke rising from the nearest and left most Islands, a sure sign of industry taking place there. The right most Island has no sign of industry, and after a quick meeting with the leaders from each race we decided that this is the Island we will sail to and set up camp.

Coastal Marching

We're marching along the Northern coast, with Arbordene to the East of us. We can see the steady migration of birds heading across the bay. It seems it was not the mountain that they were heading to each day when we saw them before, but towards the two occupied islands.

We camped at the edge of the plains overnight, and this resulted in three skirmishes with Goblins. Our forces quickly rounded them up and held them. It seems that they were attempting to rustle more cattle and return to the Islands.  Tomepicker is pacing around their prison fence. He hasn't forgotten who caused the meat rations!

We will be leaving a garrison behind to keep a watch on the area and create a blockade that should hopefully begin to impact on the Island Goblins. In total we have captured forty Goblins, although we have found 5 boats hidden in the reeds, and each boat holds 10 Goblins. There may be another 10 Goblins in the area.

Looking Westwards

In the distance towards the west I can see more goblin boats arriving on the Southern most Island. I estimate that they are there to work in new mines, but cannot be sure.

We still have not found the additional ten Goblins from yesterdays skirmishes, even though Tomepicker is doing his best to sniff them out. He really doesn't like them.

Hard Labour

It is time to cross the Bay and reach the Island that is going to be our base camp. We have set our troops to building boats.

The giants are natural woodworkers, and they are quickly turning out the shell of large sailing vessels. The dwarves are fitting out these shells, using their metalworking skills to great effect, and the men are creating the many sails that we will need by plaiting together large amounts of reeds from the beds that lie along the coastline.

It should be less than a week before we have enough vessels ready to carry us across.
